Data sources and attribution
Parts of Semseo are built on public data published by UK government bodies. This page names those sources and carries the attribution their licences require. It is the page referred to from the footer of the Semseo application.
Listing a source here does not mean the publisher has any involvement in Semseo. None of the organisations named below endorses Semseo, its products or its use of their data.
Schools, academies and multi-academy trusts
School, academy and trust records — including establishment names, unique reference numbers, phase, status, addresses, websites and the mapping between trusts and the schools within them — are derived from Get Information about Schools, the Department for Education’s public register of educational establishments.
We take this data from the department’s published bulk download. The extract currently loaded was taken on 24 October 2026.
Get Information about Schools, © Crown copyright, Department for Education. Extract taken 24 October 2026 from get-information-schools.service.gov.uk.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Semseo is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Department for Education, and Semseo is not an official source of school information.
We do not hold the named individuals that appear in the published file. Head teacher, principal, proprietor and governance names are excluded from everything we ingest.
The department publishes this register as a record of establishments and does not warrant its accuracy, and records change — schools open, close, are renamed, and are issued new reference numbers when they convert to academy status. If a record shown in Semseo is wrong, the authoritative place to correct it is Get Information about Schools itself, which your establishment can update directly.
Postcode and location data
Where Semseo turns a postcode into a town, region or approximate location — for example when someone completes a public assessment — it uses postcode data derived from Ordnance Survey, Royal Mail and Office for National Statistics datasets, obtained through postcodes.io.
